Revolut Hackers Demand $3M Monero Ransom, Threaten to Sell Customer Data: Report
A criminal group says it has stolen identity and transaction data on at least 680 Revolut customers and is demanding $3 million in Monero within 24 hours or it will sell the files to other criminals. The group claims it first used blockchain analysis to target customers whose on-chain activity suggested large crypto holdings, making this a more selective breach than typical mass hacks. The stolen material reportedly includes names, birth dates, addresses, passport or driver’s license copies, selfies used for verification, account statements, IBANs, wallet references, withdrawal records, and full transaction histories. Revolut says the leak came through a sophisticated impersonation scam involving valid-looking government email requests, and that only a limited number of customers were affected, with no funds or systems compromised. The exposed data could be useful for extortion and violent theft against known crypto owners.
