S&P Global to acquire blockchain security platform OpenZeppelin

Summary

S&P Global will acquire OpenZeppelin, a blockchain security company, to expand its digital asset capabilities. The deal is intended to strengthen S&P Global’s risk assessment and ecosystem development for onchain markets, especially smart contract and blockchain technology risk analysis. Financial terms were not disclosed, and closing conditions still apply. OpenZeppelin, founded in 2015, builds open-source smart contract software and provides security reviews for blockchain projects and financial institutions. Its contracts have supported more than $37 trillion in transferred value, and it has completed over 900 security engagements. OpenZeppelin will operate as a separate S&P Global business unit. CEO Demian Brener will remain in charge and report to S&P Global Ratings president Yann Le Pallec. Its open-source library and other public applications will stay free and maintained on GitHub. S&P Global also recently led a strategic investment in crypto data provider Kaiko to support tokenized financial markets.
