Tether’s XAUt gold token receives Shariah certification to expand Islamic finance access
Tether’s gold-backed token XAUt has received Shariah certification from Amanah Advisors, making it more suitable for Islamic financial institutions and investors seeking compliant exposure to physical gold. The certification says XAUt meets key Islamic finance principles: it is fully backed by physical gold, uses no interest or leverage, and has transparent reserves. Each token represents one troy ounce of gold stored in Swiss vaults. The approval gives Tether a stronger route to market XAUt in regions with large Islamic finance demand, including the Gulf, South Asia, and parts of Africa. XAUt is already one of the largest tokenized gold assets, with Tether reporting more than 707,000 troy ounces backing over $3.3 billion in value as of March 31. Onchain data also shows rapid growth in token value, rising from about $700 million in July 2025 to roughly $2.5 billion.
