UK crime agency froze $13.5M amid probe into Premier League crypto sponsor
The UK’s National Crime Agency has reportedly frozen about £10 million ($13.5 million) linked to Sorare during an investigation into alleged unlicensed gambling. The freeze followed a January 2025 Westminster magistrates’ court order aimed at preventing the money from being moved while investigators examine possible links to third-party criminality. Sorare, known for blockchain-based digital sports cards, had previously signed a $162 million Premier League sponsorship deal that ended last season. Separately, the UK Financial Conduct Authority warned Premier League clubs about questionable sponsorship deals with companies not authorized to operate in the UK, including some crypto-related firms. Despite that warning, some clubs still have crypto sponsors for the upcoming season.
