US commodities regulator imposes 5-year trading ban on ex-Alameda, FTX execs

Summary

The CFTC entered consent orders in its civil cases against Caroline Ellison and Gary Wang, requiring both former FTX/Alameda executives to keep cooperating with the agency. Each received a five-year trading ban. Ellison also got a 10-year registration ban, and Wang received an eight-year registration ban. The CFTC said the penalties reflect both their fraud at Alameda and FTX and their substantial help in the agency’s FTX investigations. The orders resolve the CFTC’s cases against them, which began in December 2022 alongside the agency’s complaint against Sam Bankman-Fried. Ellison and Wang had already testified against Bankman-Fried in the criminal case tied to the misuse of customer funds, helping lead to his conviction and 25-year sentence.
