Ethereum Developers Set Timeline for Final ‘Dencun’ Testnet Upgrades
Ethereum developers are preparing for the blockchain's largest upgrade in a year, known as Dencun. This major upgrade or "hard fork" will enable "proto-danksharding," a feature that will reduce transaction costs on layer 2s and make data on the blockchain cheaper. The protocol changes will be rehearsed on the Sepolia and Holesky test networks on January 30 and February 7, respectively. The upgrade follows a successful one on the Goerli testnet last week. If everything goes as planned, the final test for Dencun will take place on Holesky on February 7. Developers aim to launch Dencun on Ethereum's mainnet by late February or early March. Tim Beiko, the protocol support lead at the Ethereum Foundation, advises those running a node on either network to update it now.
