Ethereum software bug triggers emergency fixes across major layer-2 networks
Summary
A flaw in Reth’s legacy state-root calculation could produce incorrect results for specially crafted transactions, potentially causing nodes to disagree about blockchain state. Developers issued coordinated fixes for Reth, Optimism, Base and Tempo; releases included Reth 2.10.0, OP Reth 2.8.1 and Base 1.5.3. Base said it patched block builders, independently verified its state root and that users, withdrawals and funds were unaffected. No theft was reported. LayerZero temporarily suspended some transfer routes as a precaution while assessing risk. Node operators were urged to upgrade, though Base said no resynchronization was needed.
