Ethereum’s $3 billion blockspace bet hinges on who gets to produce the next block
A Delphi Digital case study says Ethereum’s proposer-selection mechanism could limit ETHGas’s institutional blockspace service: if compliant operators hold 5% of proposer weight, the average wait for an eligible slot is about four minutes, with only a 23% chance within roughly one minute. At 40% qualified weight, the expected wait falls to 30 seconds and the one-minute probability reaches 92%. Buying capacity or receiving a rapid preconfirmation does not guarantee an eligible proposer or immediate settlement. Effective qualified stake—not validator registrations—determines usable capacity. The analysis highlights the need to measure eligible stake and delivery against institutional deadlines as JPMorgan expands JPM Coin to Ethereum mainnet.
