Pavel Durov says Telegram to roll out native Gram crypto wallet
Telegram plans to launch a native non-custodial Gram wallet inside its app this summer, letting users send crypto instantly with no fees. Pavel Durov called it the largest rollout of a non-custodial crypto wallet in history, though no firm date or technical specifics were given. With more than 1 billion monthly active users in 2025, Telegram could bring self-custody and peer-to-peer crypto payments to a massive audience, even if adoption is limited. The announcement also follows The Open Network’s move to rename its native token from Toncoin back to Gram, reviving the name from Telegram’s original 2018 white paper. Telegram has deepened support for the TON ecosystem since ending its own blockchain project after a 2020 SEC settlement, and the rebrand is part of a wider push to expand crypto and Web3 features in Telegram.
