Polygon Labs completes Coinme acquisition to challenge Visa and Stripe in global payments
Polygon Labs has completed its acquisition of U.S.-regulated crypto payments provider Coinme, giving it in-house capacity to convert and transfer between crypto, stablecoins and traditional money. The deal supports a broader shift from blockchain infrastructure toward payments processing, including its Open Money Stack for stablecoin-based transfers. CEO Marc Boiron said Polygon expects the regulated payments business to become profitable in 2027 and can earn fees tied to transfer value, beyond blockchain transaction fees. Polygon remains far smaller than incumbents such as Visa and Stripe, which are also expanding into stablecoin payments. Early platform users include several payments firms, but its unified integration is still in technical preview.
