Revolut says no direct contact after $3 million public ransom demand
Revolut says it has not been directly contacted by anyone claiming responsibility for a recent customer data breach, despite public ransom demands. A group calling itself “IAmNotAVillain” reportedly demanded 6,000 Monero, about $3 million, and threatened to sell the data if unpaid. Another claimant, “Revolut Smilik,” had earlier sought 10,000 Bitcoin, far more than the newer demand. A separate site and account have also been linked to the incident, making ownership of the stolen records unclear. Italy is widening its investigation after reports that a government email account may have been used to access customer data. Prosecutors are examining unauthorized access to a public-interest system, and the privacy regulator is urging banks to review access security and checking whether other institutions were involved.
