Coinbase Wallet Rebrands to Chase 'Anything, Anywhere' Trading as Robinhood Chain Heats Up
Coinbase is reverting the Base App to the name Coinbase Wallet as it pivots from a social-first concept back to a multichain trading product. The change reflects a broader strategy to let users access and trade assets across blockchains, not just on Base. Coinbase says the familiar wallet name better fits its “everything exchange” vision. Recent additions include perpetual futures via Hyperliquid, support for networks like Solana, and tokenized stocks across multiple chains. Coinbase Wallet is being positioned as a fast-moving “test kitchen” where new assets and features can appear before reaching the main Coinbase exchange. The shift follows weaker-than-expected traction for the app’s social and creator-focused features, leading Base creator Jesse Pollak to step back from leading the app. Coinbase says Base remains important, and the wallet will continue to support Base assets and communities while prioritizing user demand for broader trading options.
